Let’s mince that: Beef Keema

Keema simply means mince. A traditional dish of the Indian subcontinent, keema dishes are typically made using minced mutton or lamb. However, this recipe is for a beef keema. This dish will make a great accompaniment for Turkish bread or even as a topping for homemade pizza.

Ingredients

· 300g beef mince

· 2 tbsp oil

· 1 small bay leaf

· 2-3 cardamoms crushed

· 1 small piece cinnamon

· 1 cup onions finely chopped

· 1 green chili slit

· 1 tsp ginger paste

· 1 tsp garlic paste

· 1 medium tomato chopped

· ¼ tsp turmeric

· 1 tsp chili powder

· 1 tsp garam masala

· ¼ cup mint leaves chopped or 1 tsp dried mint leaves

· ¼ cup water

· ¼ cup coriander leaves chopped

· Wedges of lime or lemon to serve.

Method

Heat oil; sauté whole spices and bay leaf. Add green chili and onions fry till onions are golden. Add ginger and garlic pastes. Add beef mince, cook till red colour disappears. Sprinkle salt, powders, and mint leaves. Cook 3-4 minutes on low heat. Cover and cook for 10 Minutes on very low heat. Add tomato cook for 5-6 minutes. Pour in water, stir well, cover and cook till the beef is tender. Adjust salt and spice level. Add coriander leaf. Cover till serving time. Serve with wedges of lime or lemon.
