Something new… Turkish Bread

The other day hubby came across a recipe online for Turkish bread. The recipe sounded super easy and had very few ingredients so I decided to give it a try. I have to say they turned out beautiful! They even freeze well and are easily reheated. I will definitely be making this often; in bulk!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 tbsp dry yeast
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 4 cups flour plus extra for dusting
  • 50g melted butter (or as needed)
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley

Method

In a large bowl, whisk together the water, milk, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add all the flour at once. mix with hands to make a soft dough that does not stick to the hands. You may have to use a little extra flour. I used a strong bread flour. Shape the dough into a ball, cover tightly and leave aside for 45 mins. The dough should double in quantity. Take out dough on to a floured surface. Cut into 8 equal portions using a dough cutter. Form smooth balls and leave covered on the counter for about 15-20 mins (leave space between balls for rising). Meanwhile, mix the melted butter with the chopped parsley. Flatten the dough into 1/4-1/2 inch thick disks. Cook on medium heat turning frequently. The bread should puff up at during this process. Cook till you have a good colour on both sides. Brush with the butter-parsley mix while warm. Enjoy these flat breads with dishes like Cauliflower masala, mutton/beef keema, or chicken/paneer butter masala.
